ADMINISTRATION

(2 years, title obtained: Master of Arts)

Description:

The aim of the course is to prepare well educated specialists in administration and public management, who could take up posts mainly in public administration (central and local), public and private companies, institutions, advisory bodies, non-governmental organizations cooperating with public authorities, institutions of the European Union etc. Graduates are prepared to work in higher management level positions in public administration.

Specialization in business administration is focused on wider issues in the functioning of the administration of the economy. Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills in the field of company law, tax law and regulation and self-regulation mechanisms of the operators. The speciality European administration will facilitate the study of issues related to the functioning of the European Union and its structures, and will allow analysis of changes in the functioning of the national administrations occurring as a result of membership in the European Union. Graduates will knowledge and skills of European governance obtained in the analysis and interpretation of Community law, of decision-making in the European Union and skills in the application of European standards of administration.

The administration specialization in security and public order allows the acquisition of knowledge of  the issues of forensic science and criminology, and the management of classified information and personal data. Graduates of the administration specialisation in security and public order will also have knowledge of the legal basis of national security and public order, and the legal basis for coercive measures, both direct and indirect, the conduct criminal investigations, as well as cases of misconduct. This knowledge may be useful in the legal profession, for, amongst others, police, border guards, customs personnel, etc.

 

MANAGEMENT

(2 years, title obtained: Master of Arts)

Description:

Skills acquired:

  • theoretical and practical knowledge of management science and related sciences;
  • critical analysis, interpretation and evaluation of phenomena and processes in management on different scales, assessment of the impact of the environment on these phenomena, as well as preparation and management of decision-making, especially strategic decisions;
  • teamwork and management abilities, and skills in effective communication and negotiation.

The financial management and accounting specialization educates students in the field of economics and management. It prepares graduates to work in management positions in  financial institutions such as banks, and to run their own businesses. There are seven compulsory subjects relating to corporate accounting, analysis and business valuation, business value management, controlling, international financial management, business insurance and investment portfolio management.

The management of small and medium-sized enterprises specialization includes modules enabling students to acquire knowledge and specific skills in the scope of the powers of management, auditing of personnel management systems in the enterprise, advertising, promotion, analysis of trade and financial markets, employment law, public aid for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the use of European Union structural funds and the financing of projects by the European Union.

The logistics management specialization includes subjects enabling students to acquire knowledge and specific skills in the fields of cost accountancy, logistics management, marketing logistics services, insurance logistics, international logistics, project management in logistics, and modern logistics management concepts.

 

The Faculty of Economic and Legal Sciences offers its students a chance to join various student societies.

 

There are seven student societies at the Faculty:

The aims of student societies are:

  • to develop student interest pertaining to issues raised by study programmes,
  • to develop organisational skills, creative group work, and to create an effective team,
  • to shape positive features of student personality, analytical thinking and critical analysis,
  • to strengthen academic ties via cooperation with student associations operating at other faculties,
  • to establish relations and cooperate with social organisations,
  • to organise meetings, courses, workshops, and trainings aiming at acquiring new skills and giving a competitive advantage to members of the societies on the contemporary job market,
  • to participate in domestic and international conferences,
  • to promote the Faculty and University,
  • to offer factual knowledge and organisational support to undertakings initiated by the Faculty and Departments.  

Academic activity at the Faculty involves both statutory research and research oriented at young scientists development.

Current research conducted within the Faculty of Economic and Legal Sciences comprises doctrinal bases, political determinants  and legal and political regulation of the civil society, judicial and administrative  procedures, and environmental protection legal policy.   

The issues addressed by the statutory research and research oriented at young scientists development conducted by the Faculty staff covers the following topics:

  • Doctrinal bases, political determinants, and legal and political regulation of the civil society;
  • Internal security of the Republic of Poland;
  • Economic instruments in environmental policy of the state;
  • Rules of evaluating evidence in the Polish judicial and administrative procedures;
  • A comparative approach to tax administration.

Statutory and own research conducted by the academic staff of the Faculty of Economic and Legal Sciences result in numerous publications.

Amongst scientific undertakings, the Faculty may pride itself on the conferences it organises. In 2008, the Faculty initiated a series of conferences focusing on environmental protection. The objective is to try to determine the position and rules of operation of public administration within the legal system of environmental protection and evaluation of conformity of the Polish legal solutions with the community law.

The issues brought to attention in the Faculty of Economic and Legal Sciences scientific research are present challenges in the area of management and regions of the Eastern Poland. Studies and analyses carried out by research workers as part of statutory research and research oriented at young scientists development concern:

  • Polish economy competitiveness as part of a continuous and sustainable development and its European and global position;
  • Managerial staff competence management in an organisation;
  • Evaluation of mechanisms of budgetary compensation of local government units and their efficiency;
  • Environmental management and protection including operational research of urban and regional development with the application of natural resources;
  • Use of methods and tools facilitating marketing management;
  • Logistics centres operations in Poland including European Union requirements;
  • Methodology of establishing corporate relations with talented workers in a knowledge-based economy;
  • Methods of evaluating process effectiveness;
  • Idea of communications system design in virtual teams.

Furthermore, we are accomplishing a scientific research grant entitled "Synergy vs social capital of modern organisations". The project is financed by the National Science Centre in Poland between 2011 and 2014.

ADMINISTRATION

(3 years, title obtained: Bachelor of Arts)

Eligibility: two subjects of geography, history, foreign language, science, social studies, mathematics

 

Description:

A graduate of the course in administration is prepared to work at middle management levels of government and private institutions. He/she will acquire general and specialist knowledge of  law and administration, enriched with the necessary social and economic knowledge and skills to use it in their work. It is designed to facilitate self-improvement and complement the knowledge and skills acquired in the context of progressing the integration process in Europe. Graduates will be able to solve professional problems, and have the ability to communicate at work, enable the efficient use of available resources and information technology in the office, actively participate in group work and organize and manage small teams.  He/she will be able to  independently undertake and conduct business, demonstrating a knowledge of law and the ability to apply it in practice. In addition, he/she will have foreign language ability, and knowledge of general and humanities nature. The core training consists of:

  • core subjects - in administration, law, management and economics, as defined in the standards of education for the direction of administration;
  • directional items - including the discipline required for the work in administration, such as civil, labour, criminal law, European law, the system of local government, sociology, government, and the environment (total 10 subjects).

Other objectives of study are implemented within the specialty chosen by the student and student seminars and practice. Classes within specialties are separate blocks of study, carried out over three semesters. In addition, the student is required to pass four optional subjects chosen from the suggested list of subjects.

Specialty items include local government focused on issues related to the functioning of the local administration. They mainly refer to the financing of local governments, regional, municipal, local law, administrative ethics, and the working methods of administration. The specializations are provided for local workshops carried out in close cooperation with experienced practitioners.

The profile the specialty business administration is focused on wider issues in the functioning of the administration of the economy. This includes items related to business law, taxes, banking, industrial law, the protection of business transactions, and the control and supervision of economic activity.

 

MANAGEMENT

(3 years, title obtained: Bachelor of Arts)

Description:

This course prepares graduates to work in commerce, industry, services, and all kinds of consulting agencies, economic organisations and employers' organisations on the medium and higher levels of management. Graduates will have a theoretical and practical knowledge of management and related sciences concerning the operability and problems of enterprises and public institutions. In addition, they will have the ability to recognize, diagnose, and troubleshoot the management of human resources, financial and factual information. This course prepares students to work in professional organizations and management, to assume leadership positions in organizations and work on their own initiative.

The financial management and accounting specialization allows students to gain skills in finance and accounting, and prepares them to work in management positions in banks, investment funds, insurance companies and consulting firms. There are eleven compulsory subjects, relating to corporate accounting, corporate finance and management of investment projects, business law and taxation, markets and financial instruments, the capital market and stock exchange, banking and insurance, and international economic relations. In addition, this profile allows the student to develop specific financial management skills by participating in workshops and learning a foreign language in the context of business.

The management of small and medium-sized enterprises specialization prepares the graduate for work in small and medium-sized firms. The acquired knowledge and skills will foster professional  attitudes and abilities, and enable the graduate to thrive in the environment of a small or medium-sized company.

The international business specialization (offered in English) makes the student well-versed in and fit for functioning in international organisations. The concentration comprises eleven modules focusing on theoretical knowledge, practical insight, and social competence, including but not limited to specific features of international trade, international market analysis, issues of globalisation and regionalisation in world economy, intercultural management and the functioning of financial market institutions. The International business specialty provides opportunity to seek employment in business organisations, advisory bodies, and it prepares the student to conduct his/her own business activity on the global market.

 

LOGISTICS

(3 years, title obtained: Bachelor of Arts)

Description:

Graduates from this course will have acquired  knowledge of the functioning of modern logistic systems, the foundations of Economics, organization and management, and managerial skills. They will be ready to work in manufacturing, logistics, design and advisory units dealing with logistics, and economic and administrative units requiring knowledge of logistics, economics and information technology, and organizational skills.

The management of logistics process specialization includes fourteen compulsory subjects enabling students to acquire knowledge and specific skills in the fields of transport and forwarding management, distribution channels, network inventory management, customer relationship management, transport infrastructure, logistics centres, logistic systems, packaging, logistics services, management systems in logistics, inventory management and material flow and transport and customs law. In addition, training of specific abilities takes place in logistics workshops (training and decision-making games) and training with  foreign language specialists.

The logistics in firms specialization includes fourteen compulsory subjects in the fields of economic analysis of logistics processes, risk management and logistics in the crisis, market and competition analysis, logistics management, marketing logistics, logistics in business management, management accounting, sales management and customer service, e-logistics, recycling and disposal logistics,  company finance and business law. In addition, this specialization allows the student to develop specific skills through participation in business logistics management workshops (training and decision-making games) and training with foreign language specialists.
